What is light therapy?
Light Emitting Diode (LED) phototherapy is the application of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits and improve cellular performance. Phototherapy is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties and has a variety of applications across many fields! In my clinical practice, I mainly use it during cosmetic acupuncture sessions to help with aging and acne, but it can also help with pain! Research has shown that it can help increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, decrease wrinkles, decrease inflammation, improve skin tone and wrinkles, improve texture, ease muscle and joint pain, ease stiffness, kill acne bacteria and more! So in other words, it’s really frickin cool!!!
What is Celluma?
Celluma devices are unique and different than other LED light devices on the market. Based on NASA research, Celluma delivers blue, red and near-infrared light therapy energy simultaneously to safely treat some of the things we mentioned above! Celluma is also FDA cleared for the use of acne, wrinkles and pain, which is also pretty cool in my opinion (and why I chose these devices over others on the market)!
How do you use it?
During a cosmetic acupuncture session, I will start by inserting needles into the body and face, then I lay the Celluma in a half-circle around your face and you rest while the lights do the work! If there are no needles, we can wrap it tighter around your face or wherever you need it (but you can’t lay on it!). A session lasts 30 minutes and you can also do these stand alone without needles!
I’d like to try it!
Yay! You can add this on to your cosmetic acupuncture session OR come in just for a 30 min Celluma session alone. You can also rent a device from me and use this 3x a week on your own during sessions - if you’d like to purchase one, you can also ask me about this! I find them very effective in conjunction with the cosmetic treatments to do at home, and I find it very meditative and the light is really lovely in the winter!
